Figure 4.3.2 illustrates the alumina and aluminum manufacturing process. Through a chemical process, alumina is extracted from bauxite. The alumina is then used to produce aluminum by an electrolytic process. The aluminum can also be produced by melting aluminum scrap in a furnace.
