ENERGY STAR® – TVs, VCRs and TV/VCR, TV/DVD and TV/VCR/DVD Combination Units

Definitions

To qualify, the following products must be capable of being powered from either a wall outlet or a battery unit that is sold with an AC adapter. These definitions do not include models that require additional power to receive and process signals that contain information and/or data for electronic program guides.

Television (TV) – Categorized as a commercially available electronic product consisting of a tuner/receiver and a monitor encased in a single housing.

TV/DVD and TV/VCR/DVD Combination Units (TV/DVD, TV/VCR/DVD) – See TV/VCR definition (below).

TV/VCR Combination Unit (TV/VCR) – Categorized as a system in which the TV and VCR are combined into a single unit and that meets all of the following criteria: the VCR is included in the television casing; the power requirements of the two components cannot be measured separately without removing the television casing; and the system is connected to the wall outlet through a single power cable.

Videocassette Recorder/Videocassette Player (VCR) – Categorized as an electronic product designed to play and/or record videotape.

You may wish to use the following procurement language in contracts to ensure you receive ENERGY STAR qualified TVs, VCRs, TV/VCR, TV/DVD and TV/VCR/DVD combination units. As with all purchases, be sure to ask the appropriate questions to ensure that you get exactly what you want.

The vendor must

  • Provide TVs, VCRs, TV/VCR, TV/DVD and TV/VCR/DVD combination units that meet ENERGY STAR specifications for energy efficiency, as follows:

    • TVs require 3 W or less of power in the standby mode.

    • VCRs require 2 W or less of power in the standby mode.

    • TV/VCR, TV/DVD and TV/VCR/DVD combination units require 4 W or less of power in the standby mode.

  7. High fidelity (hi-fi)
  8. Date available on the market

List is grouped by product and can be sorted according to different information fields.
