ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes Program

The ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program provides grants up to $5,000 to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient and reduce the burden of high energy costs. The Government of Canada has renewed the program from June 6, 2011, until March 31, 2012.
Registrations Closed / New Deadline for Evaluations
After reaching our goal of 250,000 registrations, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) stopped accepting new registrations into the federal grant program on January 28, 2012. The deadline to complete work remains March 31, 2012, however the deadline to obtain a post-retrofit evaluation for work completed by March 31, 2012, is now June 30, 2012. For more information, visit the dates and deadlines page or the registration section of the Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
How the Program Works
To be eligible for upcoming retrofits, new and past participants first needed to obtain a registration number since the registration system was first implemented in the summer of 2011. All participants who have already received a registration number require a pre-retrofit evaluation (since April 2007) before starting renovations, must complete all renovations by March 31, 2012, and obtain a post-retrofit evaluation and sign a grant application form no later than June 30, 2012. Participants must present all retrofit receipts at the post-retrofit evaluation. New participants are only eligible for product purchased on or after June 6, 2011, and installed after a pre-retrofit evaluation. Past participants are only eligible for products purchased and installed on or after June 6, 2011.
The Grant Table offers an overview of the program and a breakdown of eligible upgrades. Visit the Frequently-Asked Questions page for more details and contact information.
Available Incentives in Your Area
NRCan transfers file information to complementary regional programs in certain provinces and territories. Some of these programs remain open to homeowners who did not register to participate in ecoENERGY Retrofit.
Energy Evaluations and Labels
The Government of Canada encourages homeowners to have an energy evaluation to identify improvements, and receive an EnerGuide rating label, even if they are not seeking a grant.
