In general, ENERGY STAR product specifications undergo revisions as technologies change, as new standards are introduced, and as more qualified products reach the marketplace. The above link takes you to the current product specification.

Manufacturers seeking to designate a model as ENERGY STAR qualified in this product category must:
- sign a Partnership Agreement with the U.S. EPA
- arrange for third party testing of their product by a U.S. EPA-recognized laboratory which certifies that the product meets ENERGY STAR technical specifications;
- have the results sent to the U.S. EPA via an EPA-recognized Certification Body (CB).
To label their product with the ENERGY STAR symbol in Canada, manufacturers must sign a Participant Administrative Arrangement with Natural Resources Canada, which will also ensure that they have access to the Canadian ENERGY STAR initiative’s promotional and communications opportunities in Canada.
