Combination Washer-Dryers

Categories

Combination washer-dryers are available in various sizes, which affects energy consumption. To help you meet your drying needs, these appliances are listed in three categories:

  • Standard combination washer-dryers: In this category, dryer components have capacities of at least 125 litres; washer capacities must be at least 45 litres.
  • Compact combination washer-dryers: This category includes 120- and 240-volt dryer components that have capacities of less than 125 litres; washer capacities are less than 45 litres.
  • Standard combination washer-dryers with condensing or gas dryers: This category groups standard combination washer-dryers for which there is energy efficiency data for only the washer components; the dryer components of these appliances are either condensing or gas units and are therefore not rated under EnerGuide.

Note: Effective July 8, 2010, new combination washer-dryers units no longer qualify to bear the ENERGY STAR symbol. Models that qualified prior to July 8, 2010 will remain on the listing until the end of December 2010. Previously only the washer component of a combination washer-dryer could be ENERGY STAR qualified. A new test procedure that will look at the efficiency of the washer and dryer components will be developed. In 2011, units that meet the new requirements will eligible to qualify for the symbol.
