Update to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings 2011

In Canada, building regulation is a provincial and territorial responsibility. The provinces and territories have recognized that a national ‘model’ building code adapted to particular provincial or territorial circumstances is a better approach than a series of unrelated codes. As well, a national code has broad appeal for private sector building owners, equipment suppliers, codes and standards writing organizations, and other industry stakeholder.

Since its publication in 1997, a number of government, utility, and private sector programs have used the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB) as a complement and to establish a baseline for new energy-efficient building design. These programs include Validation of new building designs of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Power Smart of BC Hydro and Manitoba Hydro, Design Assistance Program of Enbridge, Ontario, MIEUX CONSOMMER of Hydro-Québec (French only) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design of LEED-Canada.
